Parts of Alabama are refusing to issue marriage license to ALL couples, straight or same-sex, in defiance of legalization of same-sex marriage.

colbert countyALABAMA – The Supreme Court struck down ban on same-sex marriage. That opinion requires all 50 states to license a marriage for two people of the same sex.

WHNT News 19 is currently making calls to see which counties in Alabama are issuing marriage licenses.

Here's a breakdown by county in alphabetical order:

  • Colbert County: Not issuing any licenses until they fully review the order
  • DeKalb County: Issuing licenses to all
  • Franklin County: Not issuing any licenses, only accepting applications until they further review the order
  • Jackson County: Not issuing any licenses until further notice
  • Lauderdale County: Not issuing marriage licenses to anyone until they evaluate further
  • Lawrence County: The Probate Judge is out of the office for family reasons. The office is not addressing it until they are issued the order from the Supreme Court.
  • Limestone County: Not issuing any licenses until they can meet to discuss the recent order
  • Madison County: Issuing licenses to all
  • Marshall County: Not issuing any licenses until further notice
  • Morgan County: The Probate Judge is not in office, so county isn't addressing this until Monday
  • Lincoln County, TN: Issuing licenses to all
