Woman with realistic-looking pistol confronts Corvallis, OR officer. Officer Derrick Samuels did not shoot, even though the woman challenged him to.

CORVALLIS, Ore.— Corvallis police on Friday identified the officer who confronted a woman holding a realistic-looking toy revolver.

Officer Derrick Samuels did not shoot, even though the woman challenged him to.

On Tuesday evening, police say 21-year old Sarah Rodgers of Corvallis approached officer Samuels who was sitting in his patrol car outside the Corvallis Police department.

Investigators say Rodgers was holding a silver colored toy revolver at her waist.

Officer Samuels took cover and ordered her to the ground.  She refused and challenged the officer to shoot, say police.

Samuels called for backup. When additional officers arrived and approached, Rodgers dropped the fake gun and was taken into custody.

"I am thankful for the conscientious evaluation by officer under extreme circumstances and for a safe outcome," said Corvallis Police Chief Jon Sassaman in statement.
