Price war causes gas prices to fall to 47 cents near Houghton Lake, Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – A price war dropped the price of gas at a Houghton Lake station to $.47 per gallon Sunday.

According to GasBuddy.com The Beacon & Bridge Market in Houghton Lake was selling regular unleaded for only $.47 per gallon Sunday evening, while the Marathon and Citgo had gas for $.95 per gallon at one point.

AAA says gas prices statewide have decreased by about 13 cents in the past week.

The auto club says the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $1.74 per gallon on Sunday. That's about 19 cents less than it was at the same point last year.

Gas price monitor website GasBuddy.com finds that the average price of gas in Lansing is $1.61 with some stations reporting as low as $1.47.

The site is projecting those prices will continue to fall.

There is a wider spread of prices in Jackson.

There GasBuddy.com reports the average paid for a gallon of gas is $1.71 but the lowest price seen is $1.38.

The last time the statewide average gas price dipped below $1.75 was in January 2009.
