TROUTMAN, N.C. -- South Iredell High School was evacuated Tuesday morning after police say a senior prank prompted a bomb search.
Dan Farrell's daughter Shannon Farrell is one of two students arrested.
He said, "I was called by my younger daughter saying my older daughter was taken away by the cops."
Farrell says his daughter told him about the prank to put alarm clocks in the unused locker and have them go off at different times. He said he thought it was harmless.
Troutman Police Chief Matthew Selves said, "We take this pretty seriously."
Seniors Shannon Farrell and Lekia Hall now face a felony charge of hoax by use of a false bomb in a public building, a "Class H" felony and obstruction of justice.
Troutman Police say it was Hall's idea on social media via email or Twitter telling students to bring some type of alarm clock to school as a part of senior prank week.
Police say Farrell cut a zip-tie off the unused locker and the students put two alarm clocks inside and used their own personal lock on the locker.
One student says the seniors considered bringing their pets to school as a prank but they, "didn't want to get in trouble."
What was meant to be a joke has left no one laughing.
Principal Tim Ivey said in a statement that never at any time was an explosive device on campus.
"As parents, I ask for your help in reminding your students that while they may believe something is innocent, an immediate response may be necessary to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff," he wrote.
Shannon and La'Kia appeared in front of magistrate Tuesday afternoon where their unsecured bonds were set at $10,000. They were released to their guardians.
