New recall petition aims to remove Gov. Rick Snyder from office

LANSING - A new petition seeking to recall Governor Rick Snyder from office over his handling of Flint's water crisis has begun collecting signatures.

Michigan's Board of State Canvassers approved the recall petition, the second petition of its kind, recently.

It had been submitted for approval by a Flint activist. This latest petition drive begun collecting signatures on March 27.

The groups behind it will have to gather about 790,000 valid signatures from registered Michigan voters within 60 days, in order to get the petition on the ballot in November.

Critics of Governor Snyder say they believe he "failed" Flint residents, and therefore should be removed from his seat in Lansing.

Snyder has said recall petition efforts against him "are part of the democratic process." The governor said he remains focused on responding to the crisis.
