In years past, 60 Minutes profiles on Apple have offered glowing coverage of the company with few surprises. But in this coming Sunday's installment, Apple CEO Tim Cook delivers a bit of drama by getting downright testy when the subject of tax dodging comes up. When interviewer Charlie Rose asks Cook about allegations from some quarters that Apple avoids paying its fair share of corporate taxes on $74 billion in revenues held overseas, the usually reserved executive gets testy, calling the tax talk "total political crap." "There is no truth behind it. Apple pays every tax dollar we owe," says Cook. "We pay more taxes in this country than anyone." The brief but revealing preview clip also shows Cook explaining exactly why he thinks the tax claims are "crap." "Because it would cost me 40% [in taxes] to bring it home. And I don't think that's a reasonable thing to do," says Cook. "This is a tax code, Charlie, that was made for the industrial age, not the digital age. It's backwards. It's awful for America. It should have been fixed many years ago. It's past time to get it done." Of course, the feisty Cook comments aren't all we'll get during the behind-the-scenes look at how Apple works. Design chief Jony Ive also shows off his design lab and the company's head of retail, Angela Ahrents, takes us into the Apple Store of the future.
