AMC reverses course, will not allow texting in theaters

by: Brett Rosner Updated:

ATLANTA —

You spoke, they listened.

AMC Theatres say they will not allow texting in their theaters after an outcry from moviegoers upset at a controversial plan to allow texting at some theaters.

Earlier this week, AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron said the movie theater chain was set to test it out to appeal to millennials.

Aron says that AMC would take "specific auditoriums and make them more texting friendly" in lieu of creating text-friendly sections in specific theaters. He says officials will have to figure out a way to make this happen without disturbing people who just want to watch a movie.

But that quickly changed after backlash on social media.

On Friday morning, AMC tweeted that the idea has "been sent to the cutting room floor."
