2 Police officers shot near Ferguson Police Department

FERGUSON, MO (KPLR) – Around midnight two police officers were shot near the Ferguson Police Department. St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar held a press conference just before 2 a.m., Thursday morning at Barnes Hospital. According to Belmar, they were standing with a group of officers in front of the police department on South Florissant Road.

The chief stated a 32-year-old Webster Groves police officer with 5-years of service was shot in the face. The second officer, a 41-year-old, 14-year veteran of the St. Louis County Police Department, was shot in the shoulder. They are expected to survive.

He further stated that he believed the shooter was "somehow embedded in that group of folks."
