Sinead O'Connor declares 'music is dead' after Rolling Stone puts Kim Kardashian on its cover

Music has officially died, according to Sinead O'Connor.

The outspoken musician has called for a boycott on Rolling Stone magazine after it placed Kim Kardashian on its front cover.

O'Connor wrote on her Facebook page: "What is this c*** doing on the cover of Rolling Stone? Music has officially died. Who knew it would be Rolling Stone that murdered it?

"Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh can no longer be expected to take all the blame. Bob Dylan must be f****** horrified. #BoycottRollingStone #AGenerationIsBeingGroomedAndSilenced."

O'Connor's fans were largely in agreement with the singer, with Charlie Gipson writing on her Facebook page: "Amazing…fake tits, money and no talent get you on the cover of the Rolling Stone! Someone should write a song about that…"

But Angela D Vecchio said music had already died. "Bob Dylan released any album which could only be bought at Starbucks. I don't think Bob Dylan would be as horrified as you think. Rolling Stone is about selling magazines."

O'Connor replied to her fan: "Key words here are 'released an album.'"

Other music fans have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment in the Rolling Stone cover:

The "Nothing Compares 2 You" singer is no stranger to speaking publicly about her opposition to the state of modern music.

In 2013, she wrote three open letters to Miley Cyrus following the release of her single "Wrecking Ball", claiming the music industry was taking advantage of the young singer.

"The music business doesn't give a s*** about you, or any of us," she wrote. "They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think it's what you wanted…Don't be under any illusions…All of them want you because they're making money off your youth and beauty."
